RESOURCES FOR EDUCATORS

When teaching circus in Aotearoa, here are some links to external best practice guidelines to promote inclusivity within our circus spaces.

Ara Taiohi

Ara Taiohi is the peak body for youth development in Aotearoa. Alongside youth they have developed the Mana Taiohi framework for youth development. This has evolved from the principles of youth development previously expressed in the Youth Development Strategy of Aotearoa (2002). It is informed by the voice of young people and people who work with young people, Aotearoa based literature into positive youth development, and a Te Ao Māori worldview.

Arts Access Aotearoa

Arts Access Aotearoa supports individuals and organisations working to become more accessible and inclusive in the arts through the national Arts For All Network. Anyone in Aotearoa involved in or passionate about the arts and culture sector can connect with them to access information, advice and resources for free.

The Arts For All Network is disability-led and operates under the social model of disability. They work to uphold Deaf and disabled people’s rights, including the right to access and participate in arts and culture.

The key resource is Ngā toi mō te katoa: Arts For All Guide, a practical guide to accessibility published by Arts Access Aotearoa and available online.
